''Palathulli'' award of Malayala Manorama announced

Kottayam, Jun 5 (UNI) The Camballoor Government Higher Secondary School, Kasaragode and Thiruvananthapuram College of Engineering have been selected for the ''Palathulli'' ('many a drop') award of the Malayala Manorama Daily in the schools and college category respectively.

Announcing this here today, Malayala Manorama Chief Editor K M Mathew said 1,500 institutions had registered under the scheme this year. Last year there were 300 institutions.

The special award for teachers was won by N Najeema of Thrissur.

The Thevara Sacred Heart College and Victoria College, Palakkad were selected for the second and third place respectively in the college category.

The award carries a cash prize of one lakh Rupees each for the first prize in the school and college category. The second and third place in the college category would get Rs 50,000 and 25,000 respectively.

In addition, the district level winners would get Rs 10,000 each, he said.

Malayala Manorama conceived the ''Palathulli'' campaign to spread awareness on Rain Water Harvesting among the people.

Centre for Earth Science Studies former head K M Nair and Advisor P K Thampi, who were among the award committee members, said the programme had helped create awareness among the students on the importance of water and environment conservation.
