Aizawl Jun 5 (UNI) The Mizoram Customs unit has made another haul of ganja worth Rs seven lakh, making this seizure the second in as many weeks.

Acting on a tip-off, received from neighbouring Manipur, Customs officers rushed to Ngopa near the Mizoram-Manipur boundary and intercepted a Mahindra jeep on the Tuivai river bank.

The ganja was cached in secret compartments and other cavities inside the vehicle.

Also seized were three license plates bearing different numbers from Assam, West Bengal and Manipur, apart from the Mizoram license plater which the jeep was bearing at the time of its seizure.

The three occupants of the vehicles had been arrested and charged under the ND&PS Act.

According to the officials, the ganja haul, exactly 302.800 kg, was worth more than Rs 7 lakh at prevailing market rates.

Ganja is estimated to be sold in the blackmarket at Rs 2500 a kg.

Custom officials said, ''Mizoram has become a trade route for these drug smugglers. Ganja and heroin come through this state and goes to West Bengal and its adjoining states. We hope to get more information from our latest arrests to put a stop to this trade through Mizoram.'' UNI SNR SJC SS1134
