MCD House adjourned after tributes to former Mayor Shanti Desai

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) The MCD House today condoled the death of former Delhi mayor Shanti Desai with members of the corporation, cutting across party lines, paying tributes to the departed leader.

As soon as the House assembled this afternoon, leader of the House Jitender Kochar read out a message expressing condolence over the death of Mr Desai as well as Standing Committee chairman Jaikishan Sharma's father Dharam Singh.

Leader of the opposition in the MCD Subhash Arya also expressed his condolence over Mr Desai's demise.

Mr Arya proposed that the proceedings of the house be adjourned for the day as a mark of respect to Mr Desai, which was accepted by Mayor Farhad Suri.

The house was adjourned after observing a two minute's silence in Mr Desai's honour.

Mr Desai had died in Ahmedabad on May 29 where he had gone to meet a relative.
