Marriage called off over dowry demands
Akola, June 5 (UNI) A marriage was called off yesterday at Hirpur village in Urtizapur taluka of this district at the last moment when the bride's would be in-laws demanded a dowry of Rs two lakh, police said here today.
The bride's father Kailas Mahadeo Sadashiv who had already given Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 to the groom's family, was asked to cough up another Rs two lakh on the eve of his daughter's marriage.
Failing to meet the demand, the groom did not turn up for marriage on the scheduled date.
Mr Sadashiv, therefore filed an FIR with Murtizapur police yesterday and further investigations are on, police said.
