Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Jun 5 (UNI) The government today extended till October 31 the term of Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee on the social, economic and educational status of the Muslims in India.

Constituted on March nine last year, the high-level committee has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive report on the socio-economic and educational status of the Muslim community in the country.

The committee was initially given a time-frame of 15 months, ending June eight, to finalise and present its report to the government.

The committee was in the eye of a controversy recently in the wake of its alleged directive for a headcount of the Muslims in the Army.
