Agartala, Jun 5 (UNI) The proposed visit of 29-member Indo-Bangla Joint River Commission delegation in Tripura from tomorrow has been postponed for an indefinite period.

Official sources said here today that the JRC delegation from Bangladesh is supposed to arrive here tomorrow on a three-day visit to the state and review some stopped project works in Belonia and Sabroom on Indian side in Tripura's south district.

A number of project works had been stopped in those two subdivisions following obstruction from Bangladesh side.

Information was sent to the Centre from Bangladesh that country's Water Resource and Textiles Minister Hafijuddin Ahmed, who was to lead the 13-member delegation, would not be able to attend the proposed meeting in the wake of the labour agitation in the textile mills of Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Government had requested its counterpart to postpone the proposed meeting of the JRC for an indefinite period.

A meeting of the JRC, which was to take place in Kolkata today, would also not take place, the sources said.

Following the Bangladesh Government's obstruction, works for at least 14 lift irrigation projects and construction of some dams on the side of the Feni and the Muhuri rivers remained closed in both Belonia and Sabroom for a long time causing immense hardship to the farmers and common people, sources stated.
