Government shielding Thind, says BJP

Shimla, June 5 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP today accused the Virbhadra Singh Government of shielding state's Additional Director General Police (ADGP) B S Thind after a Punjab court issued non-bail able warrants against him on Saturday.

''Instead of helping the Punjab Police in executing the warrants, the Himachal Government continues to back the tainted police officer,'' party's state president Suresh Bhardwaj said at a press conference here.

A court in Patiala in Punjab had on Saturday issued a non-bail able arrest warrant against Mr. Thind after he failed to appear before it despite being provided several opportunities.

He said the state government had also not replied to the CBI letter received a few months back, adding that several other cases had also been registered against the officer by the Punjab police.

The state government should clarify as to why the ADGP was still continuing to hold the important departments of law and order and CID with several criminal cases registered against him in the neighbouring state, he said.

Demanding action against Mr. Thind as per the law, he said the Virbhadra Singh government should not try to derail the process.
