Farmers take out protest rally
Vijayawada, Jun 5 (UNI) About 2,000 farmers of Krishna District today took out a huge rally at Kanchikacharla mandal to protest against the state government's move to acquire agricultural lands to set up textile and apparel parks.
Talking to UNI over phone, TDP MLA of Nandigama constituency Devieni Uma Mahaeswara Rao said the farmers were expressing their resentment over the government's order to acquire 1,603 acres of land belonging to them.
He said the farmers would observe a fast until the collector of Krishna district Navin Mittal cancelled the acquisition order.
The agitation would be further intensified if the state government failed to solve the issue and turned a blind eye towards their problems.
He alleged that the state government had decided to acquire the lands only to appease the private industrialists, who were keen to set up their units in the prime land.
He said the government could opt for thousands of alternative land available in the area rather than the land belonging to the farmers.
