DPI resort to demonstration on OBC reservation issue

Chennai, June 5 (UNI) More than 500 activists of Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) today staged a slogan shouting demonstration urging the Centre to implement 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions like IITs and IIMs.

DPI General Secretary Thol Thirumavalan led the agitation in which several women activists, and DPI legislators Ravikumar and Selvam, and district functionaries of the party also participated in the demonstration held in front of the Memorial Hall in North Chennai.

The activists shouted slogans urging the Centre not to succumb to Hindu forces and go ahead with its decision to implement the 27 per cent reservation as per the Mandal Commission recommendations to ensure social justice.
