Chappell hoping for a lead of 300-330 against West Indies
St. John's, Antigua, June 5 (UNI) Team India have certainly staged a comeback in the match but it's not over yet and they will have to bat out the entire fourth day and take a 300-plus lead if they are to put pressure on the West Indies, said coach Greg Chappell.
''If we can bat all day tomorrow then we can have a lead somewhere between 300 and 330. A 300-plus lead would definitely give us a chance. Obviously West Indies would be trying to stop that, so let's wait and see,'' said Chappell after the third day's proceedings yesterday.
Chappell also praised the team for showing great resilience and making comeback in the match.
''It is good comeback. We had to bowl well this morning and we were able to do that. Munaf (Patel) bowled very well yesterday and today also. VRV (Singh) and Wasim (Jaffer) were excellent too. But it's not over yet. We have to bat very well tomorrow, bat long so as to be in a position to put them under pressure,'' added Chappell.
The Australian also said that Jaffer's unbeaten ton has shown how to apply to and bat on the slow West Indies pitches.
''Jaffer played very good and controlled innings. He plays very straight and he looks to have plenty of time. He concentrates well and the result is for all to see,'' observed Chappell.
India surprised all by fielding a bowling attack sans Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh but Chappell defended the selection of Indian attack on this track.
''I had full confidence in the boys who were chosen. I thought that was the best attack under consideration, they bowled well thankfully.
''We have to try and develop an attack that wins game outside India and for that we have to give some of these guy a go,'' said Chappell.
The coach also mentioned that Virender Sehwag would have to play big ininings for India to succeed.
''Sehwag has been playing well. He is getting the starts that is his first job. But he has to convert those in the series. He has to go out and play big ones, that is very important,'' said Chappell.
