Mumbai, June 5 (UNI) Bollywood actor Aamir Khan today said the BJP in Gujarat should respect the Supreme Court and allow the screening of his film 'Fanaa' in the State.

At his residence here, Aamir told mediapersons that the apex court has upheld freedom of speech and constitution.

The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition filed by eminent film producer and director Mahesh Bhatt seeking directions to Gujarat DGP to provide protection for screening of Aamir Khan starrer 'Fanaa'.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and C K Thakker said, ''We are not inclined to entertain the petition.

However, it goes without saying that if an exhibitor of the movie approaches the concerned police for protection, the same shall be provided.'' ''It is for the people of Gujarat to decide what they should do now. I have already said whatever I had to. It is upto the BJP to show through their action whether they have any regard for Supreme Court, freedom of speech and the Constitution. The Supreme Court has shown that there can be no compromise on freedom and democracy in our country,'' Aamir said.

''Last month when my film 'Rang De Basanti' was pulled back from theatres in the State, the law enforcement machinery did not provide protection to the exhibitors nor is it being given now in case of 'Fanaa,'' he added.
