Barnala plants saplings

Chennai, Jun 5 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today planted saplings at Raj Bhavan here on World Environment Day.

As per Mr Barnala's instructions to bring Raj Bhavan under green cover, about 150 saplings had been planted from December 2005 to May 2006, a release from the Governor's office said.

Steps had also been initiated to plant 1,000 more saplings in a phased manner before the end of the North East Monsoon.

Green Peace Environment Protection Group Coordinator and students from the Kendra Vidyalaya, Avadi, participated in the function.

Ms C K Gariyali, Secretary to Governor, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan were also present.
