Akshay Jaganade tops HSC exams

Kolhapur, June 5: Akshay Shrikant Jaganade of Vivekanand college here topped the merit list with 97 per cent marks in State's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination in Kolhapur division.

Announcing the HSC results here today, Kolhapur divisional board Chairman M R Kadam said Tanveer Jakirhusain Halgale, also of Vivekanand college and Trupti Anil Sarode of KPGA junior college of Arts and Commerce, Ratnagiri shared the second position wih 96.83 per cent marks each. Trupti also stood first among girl students.

Tanveer stood first in science stream in the division, while Apurva Sandeep Vanjari of Vivekanand college stood third in the division securing 96.67 per cent marks, Mr Kadam said.

Besides, Deepali Balasaheb Ghorpade of Mudhoji college, Phaltan, Satara and Ichalkaranji High School and Junior College, Ichalkaranji student Amit Tajkaran Jain stood first with 86.67 and 92 per cent marks in arts and commerce streams, respectively.

A total of 98,946 candidates registered their names for HSC examination conducted in the Kolhapur division board in February-March, this year, out of which 97,561 appeared and 73,215 passed (75.05 per cent).

Kolhapur division comprise five districts - Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.

A total 54 students candidates, including 24 girls secured a place in the general merit list.

Last year, the passing percentage in the division was 72.18, but this year it has increased by by 2.87 per cent, Mr Kadam added.
