AIAWU flays UPA Government's foodgrain policy
New Delhi, Jun 5: The All India Agricultural Workers Union today decried the "anti-people" recommendations of the note prepared for the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs that calls for a hike in foodgrain prices distributed under the BPL scheme cutting down allocation of ration card holders and foodgrain component in the Central Government Employment Schemes.
Expressing "grave concern" over the proposals, Union Joint Secretary Suneet Chopra in a letter addressed to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said the subsidies being provided ought to be increased and not decreased as the policy ran counter to the UPA Government's National Common Minimum Programme and National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
In a statement here, he demanded all wheat imports at inflated prices be stopped, hoarders penalised and all landless farm labourers registered under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
