Ahmednagar pupil tops HSC exam in Pune division

Pune, June 5 (UNI) Somyadeep Ghosh of Padmashri Vikhe Patil Junior College of Arts and Science and Commerce, Pravaranagar, Ahmednagar topped in Pune division with 95.67 per cent marks in the Maharashtra board's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations held in February-March, this year.

Ghosh was followed by Santosh Patil Bhaugonda of Karmvir Bhaurao Patil Mahavidyala, Pandarpur with 95 per cent marks (science stream) and Devaki Sanjay Inamdar of Sir Parshuram Mahavidyalay, Pune with 88.83 per cent (arts) while Anand Sunil Patankar from Brihan Maharashtra Commerce College, Pune scored 90.83 per cent marks (commerce).

Board Chairman Vasant Kalpande told mediapersons here that the overall pass percentage of Pune division was 69.05, an increase of nearly two per cent from last year. A total of 1,61,343 students registered for the examination, of whom 1,58,397 appeared and 1,09,366 passed.

In Pune division, comprising Pune, Ahmednagar and Solapur, the highest pass percentage was registered in Ahmednagar at 78.11 followed by Pune at 71.74 per cent and Solapur at 64.81. In the division, girls fared better with 79.17 per cent and boys with 62.53 per cent.
