75-year-old widow on fast unto death

Kendrapada, Orissa, June 5 (UNI) A 75-year-old widow, daughter of a freedom fighter, today resorted to a fast unto death, protesting against the alleged step-motherly attitude of the district administration and the police department to provide her justice.

Rebati Sutar, the widow and daughter of freedom fighter Suryamani Sutar of Ayatan village under Rajkanika block, staged a demonstration in front of District Magistrate office.

She lodged an FIR in the Rajkanika police station in April last against one Kirtan Chandra Dhal and his younger bother Surendra Dhal alleging that the duo attacked her son and looted her house.

She alleged that though they have threatened to kill her family the police officer concerned has not taken any step to arrest the accused.

The Police officer, on the other hand, was harassing her son and frequently taking him to the police station without any reason, she alleged. She said she had brought the matter before the senior officials of the district, but in vain. She withdrew her agitation after the District Magistrate assured her to take necessary steps within a week.
