Weather condition favours southwest monsoon in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Jun 4 (UNI) The prevailing weather condition is favourable for the onset of the Southwest monsoon over Orissa during the next 48 hours.

Met sources said several parts of Orissa witnessed heavy to very heavy rains during the last 24 hours bringing down the day temperature to below normal at many places.

The State Capital Bhubaneswar recorded highest rainfall of 13 cms followed by Pipli (9 cm), Cuttack (4 cm) and Soro, Ranpur and Jashipur (each 3 cm).

Weather forecast said heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places over some parts of Orissa and rain and thundershowers at many places during the next 48 hours.

During the past 24 hours heavy rains were reported over south coastal Orissa. The day temperature in Bhubaneswar, which recorded 3.6 mm rainfalls from 0830 hours to 1730 hours, dropped down to a maximum 29.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum 23 degrees Celsius.
