Unknown fever claims 20 people in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jun 4 (UNI) At least 20 people died in an unknown fever in Deomali area of Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district in last few weeks.

According to Legislator Wanki Lowang, the people, including three of a family, who died of unknown fever in the area.

The MLA, who had sought assistance of health department, informed that he had pleaded health director Dr P P Chaliha for dispatching medical experts immediately to diagnose the disease and initiate steps to prevent further loss of lives.

When contacted, state Epidemiologist Dr. L Jampa informed that the director had instructed him to take steps urgently to tackle the menace.

Dr Jampa, quoting the DMO, said that reports from other teams are awaited.

He said that he had already contacted Regional Medical Centre in Dibrugarh district of Asom to seek laboratory assistance.

Tirap District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr N Singh, who had already sent two medical teams to the area, rushed to Deomali yesterday for a spot investigation.

The official death figure was five, including three of a family, due to malaria.
