Tibetans save over 200 cattle to mark Buddha Jayanti
Mysore, June 4 (UNI) The Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement, a charitable group in Periyapatna, about 50 km from here, today celebrated the 2550th Buddha Jayanti by rescuing over 200 cattle from various slaughter houses and handed it over to a relief centre.
The Group paid Rs six lakh to the butchers in and around the city to free the animals and handed it over to the Relief Centre for Stray Cattle, run by the Pinjarapole Society.
Group Chairman Jhe Abbot Khen Rinpoche said ''Animals are the worst victims of the greed of man. It is sold in the market like commodities and killed mercilessly.'' The Group also paid Rs one lakh to the relief centre towards expenditure to feed the animals.
