Dehradun, Jun 4 (UNI) Tehri Dam is unlikely to start generating power from its scheduled date June 15, due to ongoing testing of machines, despite reaching the required water level of 740 metres, according to Tehri Hydro-electric Dam Authority.

However, it has started outlaying 200 cusecs of water to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh as water level has reached 755 metres, higher than the required level, due to melting of Glacier. Total flow of 350 cusecs have been recorded both in river Bhagirathi and Bhilangana, sources said.

According to GM (Dam&Power House) A L Shah, testing of remaining machineries at the Dam is underway and after that on completion of synchronisation work, power generation for the Northern grid would commence.

''It is our sincere effort to ready the project for power generation from June 15, however, if this did not happen due to any technical reason, by the end of June it will definitely start generating power as water conductor HRT and other machineries had been already tested sucessfully,'' he said.
