Sanaa fails to clear first hurdle

Paris, June 4 (UNI) Sanaa Bhambri squandered easy chances and went down 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 to Dutch Anouk Tigu in the first round of the girls' event at the French Open here today.

Sanaa looked good in the opening set but managed to convert only one breakpoint out of six while her opponent grabbed all the three that came her way and won the set 6-3.

Sanaa returned with vengence in the second set and curbed her unforced errors whereas Tigu faltered. The Indian broke her opponent's serve four times and, although she was herself broken thrice, Sanaa won the set 7-5.

Just when she looked to be getting into the groove, Sanaa lost her way in the decider and the Dutch broke her twice to win the set 6-2 and pack the Indian off.
