Moitra cremated exactly a month after Mahajan's cremation

Mumbai, June 4 (UNI) Bibek Moitra was cremated today exactly a month after the funeral of his boss of more than a decade -- BJP stalwart Pramod Mahajan.

Moitra had been present at the Hinduja Hospital throughout as Mr Mahajan battled for life after being shot at by his younger brother Pravin. At Mr Mahajan's funeral at Shivaji Park on May 4, Moitra oversaw the arrangements and the flow of visitors.

It was on April 22 that Mr Mahajan was shot at by his younger brother Pravin at his residence and he battled for life for 12 days before succumbing to injuries on May 3.

Moitra joined BJYM in 1984 and was picked up by Mr Gopinath Munde as his PA when he became the leader of the Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative assembly in 1991. He continued to be the PA till Mr Munde took over as Deputy Chief Minister. In 1995 the chubby bespectaled bachelor was picked up to assist Mr Mahajan, who took him to New Delhi.

For 11 years, Moitra remained with Mr Mahajan, even when he was the minister in the NDA government.

He also handled the press and relatives when Mr Mahajan was on his deathbed. Moitra died in the early hours of June 2 in New Delhi after an apparent drug overdose and was cremated today exactly one month after Mr Mahajan's cremation.
