MDMK women wing secretary joins ruling DMK

Chennai, Jun 4 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK), women wing Secretary Vijaya Thayanban quit the party and joined the ruling DMK today.

Ms Thayanban and MDMK women wing convener in Saidapet V Prema joined the DMK in the presence of party President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at 'Anna Arivalayam,' a DMK release here said.

DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan, Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy, Organising Secretary T K S Elangovan, Headquarters Secretaries S A M Hussain and 'Thuraimugam' Kaja were also present on the occasion, the release added.

Ms Thayanban, who was the MDMK nominee for the Anna Nagar seat in the May eight Assembly elections, lost to Mr Veerasamy.

Another senior MDMK leader Nagarajan, who was detained under POTA along with party General Secretary Vaiko and seven others during the previous AIADMK regime, recently joined actor Vijayakanth's 'Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam' (DMDK).

He quit the MDMK in protest against denial of ticket to contest the assembly elections.
