Manipur assembly to discuss 'office of profit' tomorrow
Imphal, Jun 4 (UNI) The Manipur Assembly has been reconvened tomorrow, after a brief two-day session on May 26 and 29, to discuss office of profit issue.
The assembly secretariat has issued a notification for the reconvening of the assembly.
Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu had returned the Manipur Legislature (Removal of Disqualification) fourth amendment bill 2006.
The Bill was passed by the Manipur Assembly to protect six Congress MLAs from being disqualified for holding 'office of profit'.
Officials said the bill may be discussed tomorrow for slight modifications.
The Election Commission has served notice on six Congress MLAs for holding 'office of profit.' The state BJP has demanded their resignation.
The new bill, introduced in the state, had envisaged deletion of 40 corporations of the state government from the purview of the 'office of profit'.
