Mah govt gives nod to felicitate brave cops

Nagpur, June 4 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said the state government would grant permission to the police head here to accept cash rewards, declared by other states for the bravery of Nagpur policemen who gunned down the three militants while making an abortive attempt to blow up the RSS headquqarters here on Thursday.

Talking to mediapersons after visiting the encounter site, Mr Patil said Gujarat and other states have declared cash rewards to Nagpur policemen for foiling the militants' bid and seizing a large number of arms and ammmunitions.

Similar rewards were also declared by them for Mumbai policemen.

The mandatory permission allowing the policemen to accept rewards and distribute them suitably among brave policemen from their respective jurisdiction, would be given, Mr Patil said.

Mr Patil, who also holds Home portfolio, said the state government was also considering promoting those policemen for their bravery and a decision to this effect would be taken in the Cabinet.

''We had prior information about the attack on the RSS Headquarters in Nagpur since the past seven months and a strategy was made accordingly by the Nagpur police enabling them to suceed.

The entire police force, deserves to be congratulated and rewarded, he added.
