Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar resigns
Port Blair, Jun 4 (UNI) Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Prof Ramchandra Ganesh Kapse has sent his resignation to the President after suffering from a bout of illness, Raj Niwas sources said.
The Governor, who led the massive relief and rehabilitation work in the Islands after the tsunami disaster in December 2004, was on leave due to illness since February.
Lt Governor of Pondicherry Lt Gen (Retd) Madan Mohan Lakhera was given the additional charge in his absence.
''It is not clear who would be the next Lt Governor of these Islands,'' the sources added.
Prof Kapse had taken over as the eighth Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 5, 2004.
On December 26 the same year, the islands were hit by a devastating tsunami and Prof Kapse was made Chairman of Intergrated Relief Command to oversee the massive relief and rehabilitation operation.
