Indo-Bangla JRC to hold meeting in Tripura

Agartala, Jun 4 (UNI) A 29-member delegation of Joint Rivers Commission(JRC) of India and Bangladesh, including Ministers and Secretaries, will arrive here on Tuesday on a three-day visit to review some stopped works on Indian side in Tripura's South district.

According to official sources, the delegation before coming here will hold a review meeting in Kolkata tomorrow. After the meeting here it will return to Kolkata on June 8.

The delegation will make an on the spot study of the stopped works of water supply and irrigation projects and some incomplete dam constructions in Belonia and Sabroom sub-divisions, on Feni and Muhuri rivers following obstructions from the Bangladesh side.

A JRC meeting will be held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on June 13 to discuss various issues concerning the river projects.

Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz will lead the 13-member Indian delegation including West Bengal Irrigation and water resource minister Subhash Naskar, Tripur PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury, Central water resource Secretary J Hari Narayan and Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Ms Bina Sikri.

The Bangladeshi 16-member delegation will be led by Water Resources minister Hafijuddin Ahmed and includes Secretary Saiyad Md Jabbar and JRC member Taihidul Anwar Khan among others.

In tomorrow's meeting at Kolkata, Tripura's PWD and Water Resource Minister Badal Chowdhury, Commissioner Lokrankjan and Chief Engineer G K Malakar will participate.
