India to field 16-member team for World Snooker Championship

Bangalore, Jun 4 (UNI) India will be fielding a strong 16-member team for the IBSF World Snooker Championship scheduled to be held at San Jose, California, from August 16 to 26.

The team includs, ace cueist Geet Sethi, who added yet another feather to his cap by winning the World Professional Billiards title in Wales on Friday, former World Snooker and Billiards Champion Pankaj Advani, World Women 9 Ball Pool Champion Magimairajan Chitra.

The other members of the team are Chandra Manan, R Y Merchant, S B Sarang, Devendra S Joshi, S Syed Abdul, B V Srinivasa Murthy, Anju Prakash Thakur, Vidya Viswanathan Pillai, Ashwini Puranik, Heena Khandelwal, Thime Venkatarange Gowda Sridevi, Meenal Prakash Thakur and Neeta Sanghvi.

Coaches Manoj Kumar Kothari and Subhash Bankeylal Agarwal, and Referees Ajay Rastogi and C Ravindranath will accompany the team, the Karnataka State Billiards Assciation (KSBA) sources told UNI.

Meanwhile, First Pool Camp for 9 Ball and 8 Ball (Men and Women) will be held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre, Kolkata, from June 10 to 22.

In all 16 probables, including five from Karnataka, would be participating in the 12-day camp and Indian team for Asian Games 2006 at Doha, Qatar in August would be selected during the camp.
