Former DIG killed while resisting robbery attempt

Patna, Jun 4 (UNI) Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Anil Kumar Singh was killed by criminals inside an AC compartment of the 2142 UP Lok Manya Tilak Express here today when he resisted a robbery attempt.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Railway) Ajay Verma told UNI here that criminals opened fire on Mr Singh when he resisted attempts to rob him of his belongings.

Mr Singh, who sustained wounds below the ribs, was rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mr Verma said five anti-socials had been arrested in this connection. Mr Singh's belongings, including a cellphone, had been recovered from the criminals.

Mr Singh retired as DIG in the anti-dacoity cell of the state police headquarters's CID wing. After retirement, he joined Patna High Court as a lawyer.
