Debt ridden farmer commit suicide in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Jun 4: A debt ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the flooded Krishna river yesterday, police said here today.
Shivgonda Udgave (26) of Ganeshwadi village in Shirol tehsil of Kolhapur had taken a loan from a local credit society on his father's name for grape crops in his two acre land. However, the crops were totally damaged in last year's rain.
The loan amount which was Rs 1.4 lakh mounted to about Rs two lakh following non-repayment of dues. This had disturbed Udgave for a long time.
