Conference of Relief Commissioners to discuss disaster management

New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) A two-day annual conference of Relief Commissioner of States and Union Territories, organised by the Home Ministry, will begin here tomorrow.

The conference to be inagurated by the Secretary (Border Management) of the Home Ministry will also see the participation of National Disaster Management Authority besides relief Commissioners Secretaries from 28 states and seven Union Territories and senior officials from over 20 central ministries and departments rendering emergency support functions.

The preparedness status of states, UTs and central ministries to face situations of floods, water logging and others in the wake of ensuing monsoon, cyclonic seasons will be reviewed at the meet.

The Ministry of Agriculture will be presenting a paper on Management of drought. Issues concerning logistics and financial support by the Union Government to the states will be highlighted and certain Ministries like Defence, Health, Central Water Commission and Indian Meteorological Department will also be making their presentations.
