AP assembly to improve web, launch e-petition

Hyderabad, June 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly which is celebrating its golden jubilee, proposes to improve its webcasting by reconstructing its webpage to bring the House proceedings more accessble to the public.

Briefing newspersons here today, Speaker Suresh Reddy said the state was the first in the country to launch a website for Assembly proceedings, apassemblyonline.com, for which the response was good with both the residents and NRIs lauding the initiative.

The Speaker said ''now we want to improve upon it by reconstructing the webpage and making it more accessible to public.

With live telecast of House proceedings we had brought the House a step closer to every household and now we wish to bring every home to the House through Internet.

Speaking about the technological advancement he said it would make available an e-petition system by which anyone can bring an issue to the the attention of the House. People can directly send petitions to the Speaker, through their MLAs ID, who in turn would refer them to Petitions Committee for consideration, he said.

Exuding hope that it would materialise by the end of the golden jubilee year celebrations, he said the efforts are on to link the House with the Parliament via Internet.

Mr Reddy said the Assembly Library is being digitalised to enable research work. Assembly speeches and debates would be available in digital form initially to former and present MLAs, and MPs.

Referring to House Committees, Speaker said eight House Committees had been set up to go into specific issues and the Committees on Visakha and Chittoor Dairy, House Prasad Imax, and Christian Minorities Property had submitted their reports.
