Ahamed elected IUML general secretary
Kottakkal, Kerala, Jun 4 (UNI) Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed has been elected new general secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
Panakkad Syed Muhammadali Shihab Thangal will continue as party president.
They were elected at a three-day brainstorming session of the IUML working committee, which concluded here last night.
Announcing the new office-bearers, Mr Thangal told reporters that the meeting had also elected Mr Syed Ummer Bafaqi Thangal, Mr Abdulla Haji Ahamed Sait, Mr Hamidali Shamnad and Mr P P Abdul Gafoor Maulavi as vice-presidents.
Former general secretary P K Kunhalikutty, who quit the post owning moral responsibility for the party's debacle in the recent Kerala Assambly poll, had been elected treasurer.
The new joint secretaries are former Ministers E T Muhammed Basheer and M K Muneer, senior leaders T A Ahamed Kabeer and Abdul Salam Haji (Kottayam).
The meeting also constituted a party cell to study in detail the worst ever electoral defeat, he added.
Mr E Ahamed was acting as general secretary since the resignation of Mr Kunhalikutty last month.
