4 drowned as boat capsizes

Varanasi, Jun 4 (UNI) Four people including two women and an identical number of minor girls drowned when a boat capsized in river Ganga in Padari area of neighbouring Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh today.

District magistrate U K Mittal told UNI over telephone the mishap occurred when a boat carrying 15 devotees capsized near Kathnai village.

Owing to the alertness of boatman, 11 people were rescued, while four others including Vidya Devi (32), Usha Devi (26), Babita (10) and Pooja (10) drowned.

Bodies had been fished out of the river.
