12 killed, 40 injured in Bangladesh bus accident

Dhaka, June 4 (UNI) At least 12 persons, including six members of Jamaat-e-Islami, were killed and 40 others injured in a bus accident in Bangladesh's southwestern district of Jhenaidah today.

All the Jamaat activists were returning after attending a party convention in the capital.

Police said the fatal accident occurred when the Khulna-bound passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch after hitting a tree near Barobazar in Kaliganj subdistrict. The accident left 10 passengers of the bus killed on the spot and 40 others injured.

The injured were admitted to different clinics and hospitals at Jessore. The condition of seven others admitted to Jessore General Hospital was stated to be critical.
