Tribal leader shot at
Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Jun 3 (UNI) Suspected CPI(Maoist) Naxalites shot at and seriously injured prominent tribal leader Alwa Madanaiyya at Bhopalpatnam in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district today, police said.
Police said Gondwana Samaj's Bhopalpatnam unit President Madanaiyya, who was involved in the anti-naxal 'Salwa Judum' campaign, was abducted from his native village Kalapalli early this morning and shot at at Bhopalpatnam, 2 Km away.
Mr Madanaiyya, who had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election and was recently made Vice President of Salwa Judum, is being treated at the Bhopalpatnam hospital, police added.
Police sources said the tribals of Bhopalpatnam block were against launching anti-naxal campaign as the situation in other blocks, where Salwa Judum had been launched in the last one year, was not in order due to the sufferings the people had to undergo and the retaliation from the ultras.
