Subway to ease traffic inaugurated
Chennai, June 3 (UNI) Union Minister for IT and Communications Dayanidhi Maran today inaugurated a vehicular subway, a joint project of Railways and Chennai Corporation, at Harrington Road here.
Mr Maran pressed a button to unveil a plaque and cut a ribbon to mark the inauguration.
The subway, which took a long time to get completed, would link Choolaimedu and Aminjikarai with Nungambakkam and Egmore.
Vehicles that had to take a detour from Aminjikarai to Chetpet and back would now be able to reach their destinations faster.
The subway was designed to replace the railway level crossing on Harrington Road. Though the Railways had completed the rail overbridge project about four years ago, there was inordinate delay in constructing the vehicular subway.
Chennai Corporation Deputy Mayor 'Karate' R Thiagarajan, Tamil Nadu Ministers M K Stalin and Arcot N Veerasamy and Minister of State for Railways R Velu were also present at the brief function.
