Gwalior, Jun 3 (UNI) Admitting naxals were receiving foreign support indirectly, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal today said naxalite-affected states need to get together to fight the menace.

''The government has no information about naxals receiving direct foreign support but their ultra-modern equipments and training proved they were receiving some foreign support,'' Mr Jaiswal told reporters here today.

Calling naxalite-affected states to take concerted action to combat the menace, he said the Centre would provide every possible assistance to them.

Pointing out that once naxals were associated with the movement for uplifting weaker sections, dalits and tribals, Mr Jaiswal said these days naxals resorted to violence for obstructing development due to selfish reasons.

He said the naxalite movement, which started in West Bengal, ended due to the steps for land reforms taken by the government in that state. Similarly, situation improved in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa due to efforts taken by the governments in those states.

Lauding the anti-naxalite 'Salwa Judum' campaign in Chhattisgarh, he said the state government must provide protection and support to such movement.

On dacoity problem in Madhya Pradesh, Mr Jaiswal said law and order was a subject of the state government. However, the Centre would provide assistance if sought by the government.
