47 suspected chikun gunya cases in Mysore

Mysore, June 3 (UNI) As many as 47 people, belonging to the families of 12 police personnel residing in Jyothinagar police quaters here, have taken ill, suspectedly due to chikun gunya disease.

The city corporation doctors, who went round the police quarters, found many people in the area showing symptoms of fever and others suffering from severe joint pain. As many as 43 people have been treated at their residence and four others admitted to a private hospital here.

The health officers said that though the outbreak of dengue or typhoid could not be ruled out at this juncture, chikun gunya was suspected to be the main cause.

They said the blood samples of the affected have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Bangalore for further investigation.

Precautionary measures have been taken and awareness created among the residents.
