Kanpur, June 1 (UNI) Strongly condemning ''Pak-sponsored terrorism'' in the country, VHP today demanded shoot-at-sight orders to neutralise anti-national elements trying to destabilise the nation.

Talking to UNI here, VHP national treasurer Ramnath Mahendra said the centre had failed to control terrorist activities.

''Terrorists attacked Akshardham temple, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Doda and tourists at Srinagar and unsuccessfully tried to target RSS headquarters at Nagpur this morning. The government should deal with such anti-nationalists with heavy hand because, they want to divide the nation,'' he warned.

Mr Mahendra also criticised the then government of Mufti Mohd Sayeed in Jammu and Kashmir for releasing several terrorists.

''Now they are free and attacking one target after another, while the centre has failed to protect people's lives and property.'' Meanwhile, Hindu Jagaran Manch, a VHP frontal organisation, burnt the effigy of the Pakistani president in Gen Pervez Musharraf front of Bharat Mata Mandir.

The Manch demanded the centre lodge a strong protest with the Pakistan. ''The centre is maintaining silence in the name of improving relations, while Pakistan is encouraging terrorism in India,'' they said.
