Kolkata, Jun 1(UNI) Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu today rubbished the demand of the Trinamool Congress for resignation of the UPA Government on the issue of office of profit and said such a question should not arise.

'' It is a rubbish and idotic demand. What can I say ? They are asking for resignation only because the President has returned the Bill,'' he told reporters in reply to a question after attending the CPI(M) State Secretariat meeting.

Yesterday, the Trinamool Congress had demanded that the Government should resign as the President had returned the Bill that sought exemption of a number of posts from the purview of the office of profit.

In reply to a question on the West Bengal Government's move to amend the Prevention of (Property) Defacement Act, Mr Basu said business houses were more at fault than political parties for putting up graffitis on walls. '' I think political parties should have a right to express themselves. But nothing should be done forcibly,'' he said adding a Government-appointed committee was looking into the matter.

The Act was strictly executed during elections putting a blanket ban on wall writing by political parties. However, the Government now mulls an amendment to it by incorporating some liberal provisions.
