TRAI gets government's nod on intra network service
New Delhi, June 1 (UNI) The Government has accepted the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding use of special characters from subscribers terminal within the network of intra access service licences/cellular mobile telephony service licence/ basic service licence for provisioning for intra network value added services or accessing provisioning of high value speed data service.
Earlier, the authority has observed that access providers were allowing their subscribers to use these special characters in the provisioning of intra network value added service.
The Government after examining the issue alongwith the clarification obtained from service providers, found that such facility is desirable in the consumers interest to access the high speed internet in the wireless networks.
TRAI also observed that the existing National Numbering Plan (NNP) 2003 does not mention about the use of special characters for voice and dataservices.
In view of these circumstances, TRAI has recommended that relevant clause of NNP 2003 should be amended /clarified to accommodate the intra network value added services hy using special characters within the service providers network, said an official release issued here today.
