Teacher on cycle yatra for clean environment
Rajahmundry, June 1 (UNI) P Venkatnarayana is on a mission... teaching people the importance of clean and green environment for sustaining human existence.
This 34-year-old primary school teacher from Narasipudi in Alamuru Mandal set out on a cycle yatra on May 26. And 330 kms and 74 villages later, he is as ebullient as the fresh water spring in the Alps.
Speaking to UNI here yesterday, Venkatnarayana said he had been meeting people and explaining to them the importance of planting saplings and greening the villages.
He distributed pamphlets on the importance of saving trees and the need to maintain a clean environment.
The teacher in him came to the fore when he held 'gram sabhas' on the subject. He hopes the pedagogy will certainly stand him in good stead as he plans to cover the entire district, barring a few areas.
In all, he aims to tour 35 mandals in 11 days and reach Kothapeta on the World Environment Day falling on June five.
Every year, he celebrates the Earth Day by spreading environmental awareness among school children. His objective is to ensure people enjoyed a pollution-free environment.
In 2003, he walked backwards from Pushkaraghat here to Annavaram covering 135 km in six days on a similar issue.
