Scientists appeal to Kalam
Visakhapatnam, June 1 (UNI) A former Andhra University environmental scientist today appealed to President A P J Abdul Kalam to advise the centre and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy emulate the Chinese model of cloud seeding which generates an annual rainfall amounting to 1,700 tmc ft.
In a letter to the President , copy of which was released to media here, he said the Chinese have been successfully conducting cloud seeding operations for the last 50 years, yielding the maximum rainfall by harnessing the water vapour in the clouds.
He pointed out that clouds contain more than ten times the fresh water that flows annually in all the rivers.
Indian scientits and irrigation engineers were trying to harness only ground and surface water sources, he added.
