SC refuses to stay implementation of quota order
New Delhi, June 1: The Supreme Court today again refused to stay the implementation of the Government order providing 27.5 per cent reservation to OBC candidates in admission to educational institutions.
Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam informed the vacation bench comprising Arijit Pasayat and C K Thakker that the work in all hospitals has been resumed following withdrawal of strike by the doctors last evening in compliance with the court order directing striking medicos to call off their strike forthwith.
The court, while adjourning the hearing till June 12, noted, ''we are happy to note that all medical services have been restored and therefore no further order needs be passed.'' It may be noted here that the resident doctor association have already moved an application in the apex court seeking review of the Mandal Commission report which recommended the reservation for OBCs on the basis that the total population of OBCs in India is 52 per cent which according to the doctors is totally wrong.
Though the doctors have resumed work from today after calling off their 19-day-old strike which started with police action against doctors by Mumbai police on May 13, students have decided to continue with their agitation till their demands for withdrawal of Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh's order providing reservation to OBCs from academic session 2007 are fulfilled.
