Reliance gets nod for SEZ in Punjab

Chandigarh, June 1 (UNI) The Punjab government today accorded approval to the proposal of Reliance One World Ltd for setting up of a mega world class Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Punjab.

This SEZ park would be spread over an area of 5000 acres. It would generate a direct investment of more than Rs 5000 crore for exploring Punjab's gross state product manifold, including food and agri products, auto and engineering, and garments and apparel.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the high powered state Empowered Committee held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The Reliance SEZ venture was among the 43 new mega projects involving an investment of Rs 12,370.38 crore which were approved by the Committee.

These projects which included 27 industrial and 16 housing and township ventures are expected to generate employment potential for about 29,000 persons.

The other main projects approved by the Committee included the venture of Class India Ltd, to set up a Greenfeild Facility in Punjab either in the free economic zone or on Kharar-Morinda-Ludhiana road or any adjoining area for manufacturing combined harvesters and agri machinery components for global sourcing.

Class India Ltd is a hundred per cent subsidiary of Class KGaA MbH, Germany.

The Greenfeild Facility project would provide direct employment to about 200 to 300 persons and would be set up over 10 hectares of land with a total project cost of Rs 112.24 crore.

The empowered committee also approved two industrial parks to be developed by M/s Intercity Property Promoters and M/s Senior Builders Ltd. Besides six multiplex and eight hotel projects were also given the nod by the Committee.

Of the 16 mega housing and township projects approved, nine would be set up in Mohali, three each in Amritsar and Patiala and one in Ludhiana.

The empowered committee had so far approved 203 mega projects in its various meetings with total investment of Rs 73,052.38 crore.
