Gwalior, June 1 (UNI) Condemning the terrorist attempt to target the Nagpur-based RSS headquarters, BJP President Rajnath Singh today termed it as an assault on the social fabric and called for a review of the nation's internal security.

''It was planned but security personnel displayed exemplary courage by thwarting it. Insurgency is on the upward spiral after the UPA regime assumed the reins and the Centre's erroneous policies are squarely to blame. The threat to internal security has increased,'' he told mediapersons at the local airport here.

Pointing out that the UPA government repealed POTA without passing any alternative legislation, Mr Singh added that it actually ended up boosting militants' morale.

''I demand a review of the country's internal security. In the first instance in Indian history, a prime minister has publicly stated in Srinagar that not a single collateral damage casualty will be tolerated. That has lowered the Army's morale,'' he alleged.

Claiming that 20 per cent of the Indian population was affected by either naxalism or terrorism, Mr Singh alleged that Pakistan's ISI had a nexus with Nepal's Maoists, Bangladesh's extremists and Indian naxals.

''If this challenge is not accepted, this country's socio-economic fabric will be torn asunder. However, due to a policy of appeasement, no political party -- except the BJP -- is picking up the gauntlet,'' he claimed.
