NHPC registers record profit

New Delhi, June 1 (UNI) The Board of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC) has approved the annual accounts for financial year 2005-06 declaring the highest ever profit after tax of Rs 742.75 crore against Rs 684.58 crore last year, an increase of 8.5 per cent.

The board, while adopting the accounts at its meeting yesterday, has recommended a dividend of Rs 223 crore, of which interim dividend of Rs 64 crore has already been paid to the Union Government, an official spokesman today said.

Sales of the corporation have gone up from Rs 1,668 crore to Rs 1,714 crore on a year-on-year basis. Through effective monitoring of fund management and raising fresh loans at competitive rates, there has been a reduction in interest outgo to the extent of Rs 37 crore.
