'India needs to achieve excellence in higher education'

Bangalore, June 1 (UNI) Quality of higher education need to be further improved by institutions across the country to achieve excellence, Renowned social activist and Shree Shetra Dharmasthala Temple Trust Head Veerendra Heggade opined today.

Delivering the inaugural address at the foundation day celebrations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences here today, he said universities should change from being mere centres of generating graduates to centres of excellence.

He said the need of the hour for educationists was to focus on imparting quality education both at higher and primary level and not to compromise on it at any cost.

Stating that Karnataka had a good reputation at the national level of producing best talents, Mr Heggade called upon educationists and experts to give priority to research and development activities.

He also urged the state government to ensure that varsities were provided with necessary resources and said mere establishment of such institutions without backing it with monetary support would not yield any results.
