GM sells 3,478 vehicles in May

Mumbai, June 1 (UNI) General Motors India has achieved sales of 3,478 vehicles during May this year comprising of 1625 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 403 units of Chevrolet Optra and 1450 units of Chevrolet Aveo.

This marks a 39 per cent growth for GM India over the corresponding period last year where sales during May 2005 stood at 2503 units, a GM release issued here today said.

The Chevrolet brand grew at 57 per cent during May this year as compared to the corresponding period last year. During May 2005, 2229 Chevrolet vehicles were sold as compared to 3478 units during May 2006.

The company's Vice President P Balendran said that the Chevrolet Aveo, which was officially launched across the country during March 2006, is the first of three new Chevrolet products debuting in the first six months of 2006. It will be joined by the Chevrolet Aveo U-VA and Chevrolet SRV in the coming months as part of the largest expansion of GM India's vehicle line-up in the company's history.

Gearing up for a major ramp up, General Motors India's Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an exhaustive expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units in 2006 to provide world class vehicles made in India to the discerning Indian consumer.

GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera and Chevrolet Aveo at its state-of-the-art facility in Halol, Gujarat.
